In a development that has stirred both intrigue and incredulity within domestic football circles, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has issued a ‘contentious’ notice to Mohammedan Sporting Club, raising questions over procedural propriety and administrative coherence.
The letter, dated 3 May, addressed to the club’s Director In-Charge of Administration, cites the match commissioner’s report from the 30 April Bangladesh Premier League fixture between Mohammedan and Bashundhara Kings. It alleges that goalkeeping coach Sayed Hasan Kanan conducted warm-up drills with the club’s goalkeepers despite not being listed on the official team sheet.
However, the controversy has taken a rather curious turn. The BFF’s correspondence instructs Mohammedan to respond by ‘5 April’, a deadline that precedes the issuance of the letter itself. This chronological inconsistency has drawn sharp criticism, with many terming the communication ‘laughable’ and indicative of administrative oversight.
Kanan, who is also a member of the BFF Executive Committee, maintained that he has adhered to federation regulations throughout the season. Notably, BFF rules prohibit executive committee members from remaining in the dugout during matches, a directive he reportedly complied with by leaving the pitch area after warm-up.
