Bangladesh is set to compete in the E-sports Nations Cup—widely regarded as the World Cup of e-sports scheduled to be held in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this November, said a press release.
The announcement was made by Dr Md. Munirul Islam Br. Gen (retd), president of the Bangladesh Youth Development and Electronic Sports Association at a press conference held at a city hotel today (Wednesday).
Speaking at the event, Munirul Islam said Bangladesh would compete in fifteen different e-sports titles, with the total prize pool exceeding Taka 220 crore. “It is the largest country-based e-sports tournament in the world, and we are proud to be part of this historic event,” he said.
Around 150 countries are expected to participate in the tournament. Bangladesh will field a 50-member team across the fifteen events.
Team manager Aga Rafsan said Bangladesh would first compete in the Asian qualification stage. Securing a position within the top two or three teams would ensure a place in the main event.
At the press conference, it was revealed that approximately 1,500 gamers from across the country registered for the tournament, with the final squad selected through multiple trials.
The team’s coaches—Farhan Islam, Md. Abid Hossain and Nazmus Sakib said the selection process was conducted fairly and preparations are progressing well. With around two months remaining before the competition, they expressed confidence that the team would be fully ready by this time.
They also noted that, in addition to game play strategy, the players are receiving training to adapt to international competitive environment.
