Swadhinata stay on course

Swadhinata Krira Sangha shrugged off their previous match defeat as they came from behind bounced back to register an exciting 3-2 goals victory over Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in their crucial last group A match of Riviera Independence Cup Football held Friday.

Held at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur, Swadhinata Krira Sangha, with the day’s win, kept their quarterfinal hope alive with three points from two matches and they will now have to look at the Abahani-Rahmatganj group A last match result to go to the quarterfinal.

Earlier, Swadhinata Krira Sangha suffered a 1-2 goal defeat to Dhaka Abahani Limited in their group A opening match.

Dhaka Abahani Limited also in a comfortable position in the table with three points from one match and they will be needed only one point in their group last match against Rahmatganj to ensure the spot of quarterfinal while it’ll be a must-win game for the traditional old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society to stay in the quarterfinal race.

In the day’s match, Poland midfielder Rafal Aureliusz and Bosnia and Herzegovinia’s forward Nedo Turkovic scored one goal each for Swadhinata while Al Amin of Rahmatganj scored a sucidal goal. Ghanaian forward Philip Adjah Tettey and midfielder Sanowar Hossain netted for Rahmatganj.  Philip opened an account scoring the first goal for Rahmatganj early in the 3rd minute while Rafal restored the parity for Swadhinata in the 16th minute of the match.

Rahmatganj again took the lead when Sanowar scored the second goal in the 25th minute of the match.

After the resumption, Swadhinata Krira Sangha again staged a fight back when Nedo leveled the margin scoring the second goal in the 50th minute.

Al Amin of Rahmatganj made the hara-kiri scoring a suicidal goal in the 72nd minute ending Rahmatganj’s all hope as the old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj could not stage a fight back in the remaining proceeding.

Saturday’s matches : Bangladesh Police FC vs Bashundhara Kings (4 pm),  Bangladesh Navy Football team vs Chittagong Abahani Limited (6 pm).
