Kings emerge group champions in style

Star-studded Bashundhara Kings emerged as group D champions to reach quarterfinal in the Independence Cup Football beating Chittagong Abahani Limited by 3-0 goals in their last group D match held today (Wednesday) at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur.

With the day’s win, Kings maintained their all-win run in the tournament winning all their three group matches to raise their tally to nine points while Chittagong Abahani Limited remained at their previous credit of two points playing the same number of matches.

In the day’s match, Brazilian forward Robson, midfielder Mohammad Ibrahim and forward Motin Mia scored one goal each for Kings, who led the first half by 1-0 goal.

Robson opened an account scoring the first goal for Kings in the 22nd minute while after the breather Ibrahim doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Kings in the 83rd minute.

Matin completed the winners’ tally scoring the third goal for Premier League champions in the 88th minute of the match.

Kings dominated the entire proceeding and notched their deserving victory while the port city team Chittagong Abahani were totally off-colored on the day.
