Ghanaian forward Samuel Boteng slammed a brilliant hat-trick as Mohammedan Sporting Club made winning start in the Federation Cup Football beating Bangladesh Police Football Club by 3-2 goals held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla today (Tuesday).
Apart from Samuel hat-trick with three goals in the match, Brazilian defender Danilo Augusto struck twice while defender Isa Faysal netted one goal for Bangladesh Police Football team who led the first half by 2-1 goals.
The early breakthrough came for Police when Faysal scored the first goal in the 9th minute. But the lead lasted for a couple of minutes when Samuel restored the parity for Mohammedan in the 11th minute of the match.
Police again took the lead when Danilo scored the second goal in the 30th minute.
After the resumption, Mohammedan staged a brilliant fight back and scored the remaining two goals to secure the victory. The Ghanina forward Samuel leveled the margin scoring his second goal for Mohammedan in the 47th minute and he sealed the victory completing his hat-trick goal in the 73rd minute of the match.
Police, however, tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they could not score any in the remaining proceeding and eventually they had to leave the field empty handed.
Mohammedan dominated the proceedings, especially in the second half and notched their deserving victory on the day while Police failed to keep their tempo in the second half.
Mohammedan, the second-highest 11-time winners of the Federation Cup, who failed to cross the group stage last season, this time they must be looking forward to reclaiming the title.
Earlier, the premier league champions Mohammedan lost to Bashundhara Kings in the first tournament of this season, the Challenge Cup.
