Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club registered their third victory in the TVS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football when they managed a hard-fought solitary goal victory over Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra held today at Shaheed Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium (SBFLMRS) in Munshiganj.
With the day’s win, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club raised their tally to 11 points, one point behind the table toppers Bashundhara Kings, from five matches while Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra remained at their previous credit of five points playing the same number of matches.
In the day’s match, Nigerian forward Matthew Chinedu scored the all-important goal for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the 32nd minute of the match and the winners’ maintained the lead till the final whistle.
Sheikh Russel, who were struggling to raise their position in the points table, however tried heart and soul to stage a fight back in the match but they could not convert any lack of proper finishing in the remaining proceeding.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play their next match against Mohammedan Sporting Club to be held at Bhasha Soinik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla while Sheikh Russel KC will meet holders Bashundhara Kings at Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city. Both the matches will be held on February 28.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club earlier beat Uttar Baridhara Club by 2-1 goals in their league opening match, blanked Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-0 goals in their second match, split point with Bangladesh Police Football Club playing out to a goalless draw in their third match and again shared point playing to a 3-3 goal draw with Rahmatganj Muslim and Friend Society in their fourth match of the league.
While Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra earlier played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in their league opening match, again split point with Chittagong Abahani Limited playing to a 1-1 goal draw in their second match, beat Saif Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in their third match and went down a 1-3 goal defeat to Abahani Limited, Dhaka in their fourth match of the league.
Thursday’s matches: Bangladesh Police Football Club vs Uttar Baridhara Club at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj and Saif Sporting Club vs Chittagong Abahani Limited at SBFLMRS. Both the matches kick off at 3 pm.
