Priyangka steers India to final

Priyangka Devi scored a late goal as India U-19 women’s football team beat Nepal by a solitary goal to reach final of the SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship held today (Sunday) at Birshreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur.

The day’s win saw, India moved top of the table with nine points from four matches while Nepal remained at their previous credit of seven points from the same number of matches.

Bangladesh, who also have the seven points from three matches and the host will be needed a draw in their last match against all losers Sri Lanka to qualify for the final.

At the end of first 45 minutes with the score line read goalless, it was Priyangka Devi who made all the difference scoring the all-important goal for India in the 67th minute of the match.

Earlier, India thrashed Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in their opening match blanked Bhutan by 3-0 goals but lost to host Bangladesh by a solitary goal while Nepal in their first match, split point with Bangladesh playing out to a goalless draw, thrashed Sri Lanka by 6-0 goals and drubbed Bhutan by 4-0 goals.

The top two teams of the points table will qualify for the final of the championship scheduled to be held on Wednesday (Dec 22).
