Abahani-Bashundhara’s battle for spot in final Thursday

The second semifinal match between Dhaka Abahani and Bashundhara Kings in Walton Federation Cup will be played on Thursday at 4:00 pm at the BNS.

Bashundhara boys inked a 2-0 win in the third quarterfinal to secure spot in the semis when Abahani moved to the last four managing a 1-0 win against Uttar Baridhara in the fourth quarterfinal.

Dhaka Abahani is the most successful team in the Federation Cup football. After the initiation in 1980, a total of 31 editions of the event were played before this season and the Sky Blue jerseys are the title holders of 11 times and runners-up of seven times. They lifted the trophy in 2016, 2017 and 2018 in a row before the Bashundhara Kings interfered and snatched the trophy in 2019-20 season.

The Bashundhara boys are very new in the arena compare to the sky blue outfits. While Abahani started its journey in 1972, Bashundhara boys began theirs only in 2013. The Bashundhara Group backed team has one champion trophy and one runner-up trophy of Federation Cup in its showcase.

In their last encounter, Bashundhara Kings defeated Abahani by 1-0 in the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the Federation Cup, these two met for the last time in the final of 2018 event where Dhaka Abahani secured the title beating the opponent by 3-1.

That way, if the Bashundhara boys can win the match today, they will not only be able to take revenge on the opponents but will also eliminate them from the event. While, for Abahani, it is a match of keeping the prestige.

The fans will have to wait for Thursday evening to see who win it.
